Due to the economy, more pets are ending up in shelters and rescue groups are seeing an increase in the number of pets abandoned in empty, foreclosed homes.
To help Chicago Animal Care and Control meet the the needs of animals cared for at the shelter, State Rep. Harry Osterman is collecting non-perishable pet supplies including dry and canned dog/cat food, leashes, collars, toys, blankets, shampoo, etc.
If purchasing new items isn't possible, take a look and see if there's anything your own dog isn't using or if you have any old towels that could be recycled for use by the shelter.
Donations should be dropped off at Rep. Osterman's office, 5535 N. Broadway.
